Don’t Blow Your Top Over This Volcanic Rock
Cantera is a uniquely beautiful quarried volcanic rock used for fountains, door frames, range hoods, balustrades, fireplaces, pool copings and surrounds, tiles, columns and more. Susceptible to scratching, scuffing and dulling, particularly in areas of high use, cantera is, nevertheless, a durable as well as beautiful stone that can be restored, rather than needing to be replaced. We can resolve virtually any problem associated with cantera, including:
- Grinding & Lippage Removal
- Honing & Polishing
- Deep Cleaning & Sanitizing
- Sealing
Because cantera is exceptionally porous and easily absorbs spills, staining agents and other contaminants, we highly recommend having it sealed after we provide deep cleaning or restorative services. While most stains can eventually be removed, it is best to avoid stains from the get-go.
This soft yet durable material is a strong and malleable natural stone. It is formed by volcanic dust and ash that has been washed into silt beds. Rustico’s Cantera stone has been combined with lava and local Mexican stone, and compressed for millions of years.
How is Cantera different from Limestone and Travertine?
Cantera is formed by volcanic ash and dust. It has a Mexican origin and has more color variations and textures. Travertine and Limestone are sedimentary stones. Limestone is more consistent in color and Travertine is traditionally more expensive.
SCHEDULED ONYX MAINTENANCE
Regular cleaning and janitorial services are valuable for simple, day-to-day care of onyx surfaces. But over time, their processes leave your surfaces with grout lines that just won’t come clean, shiny scratches, and increasingly obvious wear patterns. As these problems develop, you become more and more dissatisfied with the appearance of your onyx surfaces until it’s time for another round of professional restoration.
